We got up at a leisurely pace this morning and then headed out to Hermit's Rest. We caught the shuttle with no competition for a seat and few people to share the scenery. We stopped at Powell Point then Hopi Point. We got back on the bus and road to Pima Point and walked the rim trail to Hermit's Rest. We had an interesting bus driver to start the trip who made us feel like school kids. She expected total attention when she was speaking and ran a "tight bus!" The walk from Pima Point to Hermit's Rest was very scenic with beautiful desert flowers. We also had spectacular views of the Colorado River and watched a raft travel along its route through the canyon. Met some fun people at the end of the hike who are from Williams, AZ and are restoring a building in town that was a former Brothel. She is a retired teacher and he works for Gore Med in Flagstaff. They are originally from Ohio...we didn't discuss football teams! We shopped at the gift shop and ate a pricey pre-packaged turkey and cheese sandwich from the snack shop but as Jesse's mother used to say, "Hunger is a great sauce." We shared our space with a very curious raven who happily posed for lots of pictures. The day was getting very warm and the crowds were building so we decided to hop on the bus and head back to my home away from home for a rest...guess who's bus we get on??? Yes, the little bus sargent and she told us stories on the way back to Bright Angel Lodge. An unforgettable ride with an unforgettable bus driver.
