Its is remarkable what a uniform can do for a person. When I have mine on and walking around the park people think I know what I'm talking about...as my father-in-law would say, "Fooled another one!" But seriously, what a fantastic way to meet people and hear their stories. I had the 2 cutest girls in my storytime today that were from Australia and what a delight they were. I also had a little boy with a blue ballcap on with the letter M (he was from Michigan) so I called him "Michigan" and he loved it. I'm getting more comfortable with my storytelling so I feel much better. Nothing like having a captive audience. Last night I attended a book club with Betty. They read The Very Hard Way by Brad Dimock. Its the life story of Bert Loper, a riverman who ran the rivers here, especially the Colorado. I learned a lot about the river and the people who run the boats. The retired librarian from the local high school was there with her husband, a retired interpretive ranger. They had great stories to share and she sang a song for us about Bert that was amazing!!!! She works for an outfitter that runs the river trips and she goes down at least once a year. They invited me to their Marguerita party in July. Don't think I'll miss that. Tonight is a big staff meeting at the Canyon View Information Center. They are showcasing the new ideas for the visitor's center and are looking for recommendations, suggestions, etc. I thought I would go to see what it is all about. Karen comes in tomorrow and we are off to the North Rim. I was able to get a campsite with my park employee status which is great because the camp ground is booked solid until September! I love this job!!!!!
