A few more comments on the North Rim camping trip. We hiked the Widforss Trail on Saturday...10 miles round trip. A beautiful hike along the rim and through the forest with ponderosa pines, spruce and aspen trees. Even nice ferns and beautiful wildflowers. We took lots of pictures and at the rim we stopped and ate lunch before heading back to the car. Dinner at the Grand Canyon lodge was exceptional and the view of the south rim at night was breathtaking. You could see the lights at Bright Angel and El Tovar. We were up by 6 and had the car packed so we could hike down into the canyon on the North Kaibab Trail. We got started before the mules and hiked down about 2 miles before turning around for the long and exhausting climb back out. The ride back to the South Rim involved a few stops: Jacob's Lake for the most amazing cookies and a raspberry milkshake. Then Lees Ferry to see the Colorado River and some rafters. All in all a great weekend. Karen went off on her own today exploring and I went to the library. It was rather quiet. Tonight we are going to the amphitheater to see the evening program.
